JU Holds Hymn Sing Event at First Baptist Church in Lexington, MO

Jubilee University held a special event on Thursday, November 14, 2024. The “Hymn Sing,” led by Dr. Merril Smoak with Professor Reuben Chae as the pianist, was an inspiring and meaningful occasion for the Lexington, MO community.

Dr. Smoak, who has served as the worship leader at a Baptist church for over 20 years, brought his vast experience and deep understanding of worship to the event.

The hymn sing program featured 13 songs divided into four sessions: “Let’s Sing”, “Thanksgiving Hymns”, “Let the Blessings Flow”, and “What is in a Hymnbook?” followed by Selected Hymns. Throughout the event Dr. Smoak shared the background, lyrics, and meaning of each hymn, enriching the experience for all attendees. Every hymn felt like a jewel, and the audience enjoyed singing together in unity.

One attendee shared, “I also serve as a worship leader at my local church. Most of the time, I’m focused on preparation and striving for musical excellence to improve our worship services. I hadn’t taken the time to fully appreciate the meaning of the hymns or the music itself. But today, I was filled with grace and I gained strength through the hymns. I look forward to sharing this experience with our church members. Thank you for this beautiful event and for serving us!”

Jubilee University is thrilled to present a variety of musical events to the community, celebrating our talents and creating opportunities for connection through music.
